| MASS ON INTERNET FOR CHRISTY RING |
|
Dedicated hurling fans organised a special anniversary Mass for Christy Ring who died 29 years ago. The Mass took place at 1.00pm on the fourth of March 2008 in St Augustine’s Church in Washington St, Cork, and was concelebrated by Frs Pat Moran, Michael Leahy, Jerry Hickey, Michael O’Regan and Bernard Cotter SMA. More than 1,000 filled the church to pay their respects to Ring who died in 1979. Of special significance was the chalice used at Mass. In 1954 when the great man lived in digs on the Grand Parade, he volunteered his eighth All-Ireland medal to be added to an artistic chalice in St Augustine’s Church. Michael Morey, a great friend of Christy Ring organised this year’s Mass. Present were his wife Rita Ring, his children and grandchildren, fellow hurling legends Willie John Daly, Denis O’Riordan, broadcast icon Donncha O Dulaing, Lord Mayor Cllr Donal Counihan and Fr Bernard Cotter SMA who played alongside the Glen Rovers star.
